Herzog Paid Tribute to Zamir: "He Contributed His Talent to the Building of the Country"

President Isaac Herzog paid tribute to the former head of the Mossad, Zvi Zamir, who passed away this morning (Tuesday), "contributed his talent to the building of the country."

The announcement issued by Herzog reads, "With the passing of Zvi Zamir, the State of Israel separates from one of its founding fathers of the security system, the Palmach fighter who became a general in the IDF and later led the Mossad for Intelligence and Special Operations during critical and action-packed years, centered on a worldwide struggle against the terrorism that threatens Israelis and Jews in Israel and beyond."

"Put himself time and time again at the service of the motherland"

The president went on to describe the work of the late Zamir, even after the end of his senior positions in the Israeli security system, Zamir continued to contribute his talent and abilities to the building of the country and the state, among other things in the economic field, and put himself time and time again at the service of the homeland.

In conclusion, he noted that the former head of the Mossad was his neighbor during his childhood years, "I looked up to him from my childhood, as someone who served by my father's side and was our neighbor and friend. Condolences to his family and all his loved ones. May his memory be blessed."

Gallant: "One of the founders of Israel's security and intelligence activities"

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant posted a message on his Twitter page and expressed his sorrow over Zamir's passing. "It was with great sadness that I received the news of the passing of Major General Zvi Zamir, who laid the foundation for Israel's security and intelligence activities," he wrote.

According to him, "Zamir was one of the prominent heads of the Mossad, and led a series of operations against the heads of terrorist organizations around the world.
