The IDF published today (Wednesday) the details of the investigation into the serious incident in which three abductees were killed by IDF soldiers after they were suspected of being terrorists.
According to the details provided by the IDF, the fighters located a suspicious building and then a dog from the canine Unit was sent into the place. When it located the three abductees and they noticed that it had a camera, they started calling "help". The fighters at that time realized that the abductees were in the building. As a result the dog was killed by the terrorists.
After the recording was heard, the soldiers of the Golani patrol broke into the building and killed the terrorists and thus the abductees were freed. The IDF stated that it is not known how many fighters entered the building and they will investigate this as part of the completion of the investigation. The incident happened at 10:00 in the morning and the dog was found shot at 18:00.
A few days ago, according to a preliminary investigation, it was announced that the three abductees came out of a building that was only tens of meters away from the building where the fighters were staying. One of the soldiers who recognized the abductees coming out without shirts with white cloth, suspected that it was a terrorist squad and fired at them. Two were killed immediately by the shooting and one was wounded.
After the shooting, a cry of 'help' was heard in Hebrew, following which the battalion commander on the spot ordered silence, but when the wounded abductee started to leave the building, another shot was fired at him. The IDF states that the two shootings are contrary to the opening fire instructions.
The Southern Command explained that the fighting zone in the city is full of terrorists who arrive in civilian clothes and try to draw the forces into an ambush.
