The American actor Matthew Perry, who played the character of Chandler Bing in the series "Friends", passed away tonight (Saturday) at the age of 54.
According to reports in the American media, Perry drowned in the jacuzzi at his home in Los Angeles - but at this stage there is no official confirmation. The California police said that the investigation into the circumstances of his death is still ongoing, but it was clarified that no drugs were found at the scene of the death and that no criminal offense is suspected.
Perry's last post on social media was from about five days ago, which has now gone viral, when he uploaded to his Instagram page a photo from the hot tub in question: "Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I'm Matman" he wrote and signed the post with the nickname he gave himself recently, as a kind of reference to the character of Batman.
Matthew Perry began his career in the 80s in the comedy series "Second Chance", and later made a guest appearance in the series "Beverly Hills 90210". In 1994, he began portraying the character of Chandler in the sitcom "Friends", which aired for 10 seasons and earned him an Emmy Award nomination in 2002.
After the end of "Friends", Perry moved on to appear in the series "The White House" and "Studio 60", and in recent years he also appeared in guest roles in other successful series, including "The Good Wife" and "The Odd Couple".
