Senior advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader, Yahya Rahim Safavi, told Iranian media networks that the Islamic Regime would revenge the alleged Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, in which Quds Force commander Mohammad Reza Zahedi was killed along with six other senior officers.
“The shadow of fear and terror looms over the occupied lands, and the Zionists see the specter of death in their dreams every night,” Safavi was quoted as saying after claiming that Israel had closed 28 of its embassies for fear of an Iranian counter-strike.
“Confronting this brutal regime is a legal and legitimate right,” he insisted.
While it is not clear what Zehedi was doing at the Syrian embassy at the time of the strike, a Breitbart report quoting the Agence France-Presse, (AFP) revealed that Lebanese sources said Zahedi was the only non-Lebanese official to hold a seat on Hezbollah's governing body, the Shura Council and a close associate of Hassan Nasrallah's, who eulogized the "martyred" general, telling followers that he “lived with us for long years, away from the spotlight, and provided important services to the resistance in Lebanon and the whole region.”
