Israel, already known as a vegetarian haven, can now celebrate in earnest: the government has now approved the commercial sale of cultivated beef meat, making it the first country in the world to do so, according to reporting by Army Radio.

The lab-grown beef products will now be made available in Israel by Aleph-Farms, the cultivated meat company which submitted the original request for approval and which has now received it after a long process.

The other two countries to approve the commercial sale for lab-cultivated meat, Singapore and the United States, have only done so for chicken products. Israel is the first to give approval for lab-cultivated beef products.
