Frank Auerbach, one of the 10,000 child refugees on the famous Kindertransport from Nazi Germany to Britain and an influential post-war British artist, has died. He was 93.
Both of Auerbach's parents stayed behind in Germany and were murdered in the Holocaust.
A figurative painter who focused on urban scenes in London and specific portraits, he was close to two other Anglo-Jewish painters, Leon Bomberg and Leon Kossoff, according to the Jewish Chronicle.
His work has been displayed around the world, including in the Israel Museum.
He leaves behind a son.
