In a disturbing development, the Israeli State Prosecutor's Office has filed charges against Eliyahu Perez for a severe case of domestic abuse that has left his wife with irreversible paralysis of her lower body.

Prosecutors allege that Perez, driven by obsessive jealousy and unfounded suspicions of infidelity, injected his wife with cleaning chemicals. While initially investigated as attempted murder, the charges have been reduced to assault due to the nature of the chemicals used.

The indictment paints a picture of long-term abuse, including:

- Installation of tracking devices and wiretaps in their vehicles

- Daily surveillance of his wife's movements and conversations

- Frequent outbursts of anger, resulting in property damage

- Surreptitious drugging of his wife with benzodiazepines

The case reached its horrific climax when Perez allegedly injected his wife with harmful substances, causing her to wake in extreme pain. Despite accompanying her to the hospital, he reportedly failed to disclose his actions to medical staff.

This incident has reignited discussions about domestic violence prevention and victim protection in Israel. The prosecution wants to hold Perez in custody until the completion of legal proceedings.
