The Israeli National Security Council (NSC) issued a statement on Wednesday raising the level of travel warning for Israelis in Sri Lanka following recent information on a terrorist threat targeting tourist areas and beaches.
The NSC calls on Israelis in these areas to leave the dangerous areas immediately and avoid non-essential travel to the country.
According to the announcement, the travel warning for the Arugam Bay area and beaches in the south and west of the country, including the cities of Ahangama, Galle, Hikkaduwa and Weligama, has been tightened to threat level 4 – the most severe level.
The NSC recommends that Israelis staying in these areas leave them immediately. Those leaving these areas should also consider leaving Sri Lanka altogether, or at least heading to the capital Colombo, where there is a high presence of local security forces.
