CRIF, the umbrella organization representing French Jewry, reported an "explosion" in antisemitic incidents throughout France since October 7 based on official Ministry of Interior data.

Per the report, a total of 1,676 were registered during 2023 compared to just 436 in 2022, and the number of antisemitic incidents after October 7 alone equalled the total number of such incidents in the previous three years combined.

Nor are these incidents confined to particular regions or institutions. CRIF stated that incidents occurred in almost every single one of France's departements or districts - 94%. Meanwhile, 32% of antisemitic acts were done in the private sphere, about 20% on public roads, and there has also been a surge of antisemitic hatred in French public schools, especially middle school.

CRIF further showed in an infographic that this surge is significantly worse than the previous two surges in hatred: there was an increase of 200 and 300% after the attacks on the Jewish school in Toulouse in 2012 and the terrorist attack on the Hyper Cacher supermarket in 2015. By contrast, the surge after October 7 witnessed a 1000% increase in antisemitic incidents.

All this is occurring despite open statements of solidarity with French Jews among many prominent political leaders and very well attended marches against antisemitism throughout France.
