British Jews, Anti-Semitism threat, Haniyeh assasination

British Jews urged to heighten security following Haniyeh assassination

In response to heightened tensions after the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, the Community Security Trust (CST) has issued a security alert for Jewish organizations and individuals in the UK.

The CST advises that communal buildings and members maintain stringent security measures due to the ongoing high tensions, particularly following recent terrorist attacks and the conflict in the Middle East.

While there is no specific intelligence or advance warning behind the advice, the CST emphasizes that global history of anti-Jewish terrorism necessitates continued vigilance. The organization urges all Jewish institutions and community members to adhere to security protocols established after the Hamas attacks on October 7 and the subsequent rise in antisemitism.

Community members are advised to keep their gates and doors closed at all times, stay vigilant for suspicious behaviour, and report any concerns. They should avoid gathering outside communal buildings and events, prevent unauthorized individuals from entering through doors, and review their emergency procedures.

This security warning follows the recent killing of Haniyeh in Tehran, an attack reportedly carried out by Israel. Dr. Lynette Nusbacher, a former intelligence advisor to the UK Cabinet Office, noted to the JC that Jews worldwide may face increased risk due to Iranian threats of retaliation. She warned that both Israelis and Jews globally could be targeted, emphasizing the need for heightened awareness and security.
