Major decision: The IDF will start this Sunday issuing summons for the first order and sorting and evaluating the ultra-Orthodox.
The IDF stated that "it is working to recruit to its ranks from all parts of society in light of the conscription obligation in the State of Israel, by virtue of being the people's army and in light of the increased operational needs at this time, in view of the security challenges"
"The IDF will continue to act in accordance with the decision of the political level and in accordance with the law."
As you may recall, last month the High Court of Justice ruled unanimously that the state is obligated to recruit yeshiva students into the army because there is no legal framework that makes it possible to distinguish between yeshiva students and others destined for military service. Students who did not receive an exemption or whose military service was not postponed.
This morning, the Movement for the Quality of Government and the Defence Shield of Israel Forum submitted an urgent petition to the High Court, demanding an order to the Ministry of Defence and the IDF to immediately recruit all 63,000 yeshiva students required to be drafted according to the Defence Service Law.
According to the petitioners, the petition was filed due to the IDF's disregard of the High Court ruling, which stated that there is no legal basis for avoiding the recruitment of the ultra-Orthodox and that the security system must act in accordance with the provisions of the Security Service Law.
