Yisrael Beytenu party chairman MK Avigdor Liberman, whom many see as the enemy of religion due to his attacks on Charedi draft exemptions and his party's staunchly secular image, rejects this image personally, revealing that there is one religious commandment he observes diligently.

In an interview for the Knesset channel, Liberman said "I do not despise religion at all. I've fasted on Yom Kippur, Tisha Bav, and Tzom Gedaliah for decades. I have a problem with Charedi political operators. Hillel the Elder was a lumberjack - why can't Gafni be a lumberjack?"

Liberman's party continues to run neck and neck with Yair Lapid's Yesh Atid in some polls and there have been reports of a possible merger between his party and Sa'ar's, along with some others on the center-right.
