As the month of Elul begins, Jewish music artists Mordechai Shapiro and Gabriel Reichman (known professionally as 'Akev') have released a new single titled "Elul." The track, co-written by Shapiro, Gabriel Reichman, and Shumi Reichman, offers a straightforward approach to the themes of Teshuva and self-improvement.
In a brief interview, Shapiro explained, "We wanted to create something that speaks directly to the core of what Elul represents ... It's about honest self-reflection and the commitment to personal growth."
Notably, the chorus incorporates phrases from the Yom Kippur viduy balanced by an affirmation of potential for change.
Shapiro emphasized the timeliness of the release. "Elul is traditionally seen as a period when divine presence is more accessible," he said. "We hope this song can serve as a musical accompaniment to people's personal reflections during this time."
"Elul" is now available on major streaming platforms. The track features musical production and arrangement by Gabriel Reichman.
